What Does Your Favorite Ice Cream Flavor Say About You?

Your favorite flavor can actually relate to your personality!

When it comes to ice cream, there are likely more flavors out there than you can imagine! Ice cream flavors vary greatly from wacky varieties like Thanksgiving Dinner (yes, you read that right—complete with tomatoes, potatoes, and green beans) to tamer crowd-pleasers like tried and true vanilla. There’s truly a flavor for everyone under the sun, and often, even if you can’t find a specific flavor you’re craving, you can find someone to try making it or make it yourself. At Besties Ice Cream alone we house over 150 flavors to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth!

That being said, did you know that your ice cream flavor of choice says even more about you than it does about the ice cream? You might be thinking “how can that be? Surely Thanksgiving Dinner ice cream says more about...Thanksgiving dinner than about those who consume it!” But that doesn’t seem to be the case. Dr. Alan Hirsch of the Smell and Taste Treatment and Research Foundation even conducted a study, to determine how a person’s ice cream flavor of choice reflected their personality traits.

When presented with numerous ice cream flavor options, the one that you choose actually says a lot about who you are as a person, especially when it comes to your absolute, all-time favorite flavor. What will you pick? Choose wisely, and then read on to find out how your choice may in fact be indicative of your personality!

Vanilla

If you chose vanilla, you’re actually anything but vanilla! Those who chose vanilla in Hirsch’s study were shown to be more impulsive, easily suggestible, and idealistic, of all things. It's an interesting combination of traits, to be sure, and anything but boring as some might suspect.

Strawberry

Those who favor strawberry were found in Hirsch’s study to be tolerant, devoted, and even introverted. Lovers of strawberry ice cream are the type to be passionate about those they care about and perhaps happiest when their nose is buried deep in a good book!

Chocolate

If you’re a fan of chocolate ice cream, than you are more likely to be flirtatious and seductive, according to Hirsch. Along with those character traits, Hirsch found chocolate lovers to be dramatic, lively, and charming. It seems like those who like chocolate ice cream are likely to have a variety of fun and outgoing personality traits, perhaps making them the life of the party!

Mint Chocolate Chip

Apparently, mint chocolate chip lovers can be a bit argumentative. According to Hirsch, though, they can also be frugal and cautious. Quite an interesting combination of personality traits that could perhaps be said to balance each other out and make for a great personality profile.

Rainbow Sherbet

Those who like rainbow sherbet should, at least according to the colorful ice cream they chose, be vivacious and happy, right? According to Hirsch, that’s actually wrong! People who prefer rainbow sherbet are reportedly a bit pessimistic about life, despite their love for a fun and colorful treat. Lovers of sherbet were also found to be analytic and decisive. Not exactly the type of personality you would expect from someone who chooses to eat the rainbow when they have their choice of ice cream flavors.

Coffee

For those who liked coffee-flavored ice cream, or Jamoca, as Baskin Robbins calls it, Hirsch found them to be conscientious and even moral perfectionists. Perhaps it’s because they like coffee so much they’ll even have it in their ice cream! But who are we to know (or judge?)

Chocolate Chip

People who like chocolate chip ice cream in Hirsch’s research were generous and competent. Lovers of this classic combination of both chocolate and vanilla were also found to be go-getters. The bits of chocolate in their ice cream put a bit of pep in their step, we suppose!

Rocky Road

If you like Rocky Road, the origins of which we’ve covered on the blog before, you might actually be a bit aggressive, according to Hirsch’s study. Those who love Rocky Road are often successful, but sometimes to the detriment of those around them. Something to keep in mind about yourself if you are a fan of Rocky Road.

Butter Pecan

In Hirsch’s study, those who loved butter pecan or pralines and cream ice cream were likely to be loving and supportive to those they loved. The type of person who likes butter pecan supposedly prefers to avoid the spotlight, instead playing a supportive role to those in their life that thrive when they garner attention.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

The final flavor Hirsch studied was chocolate chip cookie dough, a well-loved favorite to be certain. Those who chose chocolate chip cookie dough as their favorite ice cream flavor were found more likely to be ambitious and competitive. While these traits might sound like a recipe for success, but also a few bumps in the road, lovers of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream were also found to be visionaries—a nice trait to balance out their competitive tendencies.

With so many personalities on the planet, and so many varying flavors of sweet, creamy ice cream to choose from, it’s no wonder that your choice could, in fact, be a reflection of your personality traits! While we wouldn’t put too much stock in ice cream to determine the best and worst parts of your personality, it’s always interesting to think about the ways ice cream can reflect, or influence, our lives. Dr. Hirsch’s study definitely gives some exciting things to think about when it comes to those we know and love.
